The chorister training in itself is probably the very best form of musical education for boys of this age. Abbey choristers perform daily to a highly professional standard alongside their adult colleagues, and they naturally learn to read music, and to respond musically. Within the choir school the music curriculum is designed to complement the vocal training that the boys receive. Everyone learns the piano and at least one orchestral instrument, and theory and aural classes form part of the overall curriculum.
Instrumental lessons are all part of the overall chorister scholarship and there is no additional charge made for these to parents.
Every boy plays in at least one orchestral ensemble, and advanced instrumentalists have the opportunity to pursue their playing to a very high level.
