Musical Education

The chorister training in itself is probably the very best form of musical education for boys of this age. Abbey choristers perform daily to a highly professional standard alongside their adult colleagues, and they naturally learn to read music, and to respond musically. Within the choir school the music curriculum is designed to complement the vocal training that the boys receive in the Abbey. All boys learn the piano and an orchestral instrument, and orchestral ensemble, theory and aural classes form part of the overall curriculum. Advanced instrumentalists have the opportunity to pursue their playing to a very high level. Boys’ instrumental practice is carefully timetabled and supervised encouraging good study habits.
